About Justice Newman

Former State Supreme Court Justice Sandra Schultz Newman has spent more than 30 years in court on both sides of the bench. Madame Justice Newman was the first female Assistant District Attorney in Montgomery County, and in 1995, was first elected to the Pennsylvania Commonwealth Court. In 1995, she was elected to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, becoming the court’s first female Justice.  She has tried or heard thousands of cases dealing with issues ranging from family law and personal injury to medical malpractice, workers’ compensation and zoning matters. She also certified numerous Third Circuit and United States Supreme Court cases and many of those decisions not only had a landmark impact in Pennsylvania, but were upheld in the United States Supreme Court. After leaving the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, Justice Newman focused on appellate practice, arbitration and mediation and continues her strong support for education.

Joining her will be a special guest, Gregory Cirillo, a Partner and Co-Chair of the Litigation Department at Dilworth Paxson,.  Founded in 1933, Dilworth Paxson conducts a broad and diverse regional law practice representing non-profit foundations, a wide variety of clients ranging from Fortune 500 companies to closely-held businesses, governmental entities and individuals. Greg focuses his practice on plaintiff and defense tort litigation as well as general complex commercial litigation, with an emphasis on construction accident litigation. Greg spearheaded his firm’s involvement in the “Homeless Advocacy Project,” to ensure that those in need can exercise their full legal rights.  A second generation American, Greg’s father was also a brilliant Appellate Judge and served as the President Judge of the Pennsylvania Superior Court. Greg is currently running for Judge of the Court of Common Pleas, Montgomery County.
